"I must admit, I was born at an early age." -- Groucho Marx
On this site you’ll find My Blog — mostly reflections that tend to surface while I’m traveling. Strangely, they’re rarely about travel itself. More often, my thoughts loosen up when I’m on an airplane, reading a book, or watching a movie. The artwork you see in the blog entries are [usually] AI-generated. I’m no artist, but I do provide the prompts — so if that makes it “original,” I’ll happily claim it. (I’m sure there’s an official term for prompt-based graphics, and one of these days I should probably learn it.) The essays themselves are old-fashioned originals, though I do lean on a spellchecker and sometimes accept the grammar nudges. I’ve even asked ChatGPT now and then to help me keep the tenses consistent — because, frankly, my spelling is bad, and my tense-keeping is worse. Ultimately, the posts are here for me — a place to work things out, capture a thought, or reflect. But if you’ve found your way here, you’re more than welcome to read along.
Technology has been woven into my life for as long as I can remember. I wrote my first lines of code at age 10 in the 4th grade, tinkering in AppleSoft BASIC before moving on to BASICA, Fortran, Pascal, Java, C#, and more. What started as curiosity quickly became a lifelong pursuit: building systems, leading teams, and even standing up data centers around the world. These days, of course, racks of servers have largely given way to the cloud—but those early experiences remain invaluable. Understanding the fundamentals of how things were built strengthens my ability to guide how they evolve.
While I no longer spend my days writing code, I’ve never stopped being deeply engaged with technology—and with the people who make it work. Over the years I’ve built and led global teams as much as I’ve built systems, creating environments where talented individuals can solve hard problems together. I stay close to the evolving landscape, blending that leadership experience with a strong technical foundation and a passion for designing responsible, forward-looking systems that help enterprises succeed. Today, as Global CIO of the world’s largest clinical logistics company, I continue to live at the intersection of healthcare, logistics, and patient-centric services—bringing decades of technical and people leadership to some of the most complex challenges shaping our world.

I’m the proud father of four amazing kids — three in college and one still at home — who keep me grounded, laughing, and constantly learning. When my children were younger, I coached baseball until their skill level (and fastballs) outpaced me, and those seasons remain some of my favorite memories. These days, I enjoy writing reflective essays, often for myself or to share with someone I’m mentoring, as a way to make sense of the experiences that shape both work and life.
Outside of work, I stay active and find joy in the outdoors — skiing, whitewater rafting, boating, or simply walking with my wonderful wife. I’ve been fortunate to travel to six continents and to more countries than I’ve visited U.S. states (and I’ve covered quite a few of those as well). My wife, a practicing attorney at one of the state’s largest firms, shares my love of adventure, and together we’re eager to continue our explorations in the years ahead. Much like my professional life — where I’ve built systems and led teams across continents — travel has deepened my perspective on people, cultures, and the value of connection.
Education has also been a defining thread in my journey. I earned my bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University, one of the nation’s top public universities, and — after a 30-year break from academia — returned to complete my master’s degree at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. That experience rekindled my love of learning and reaffirmed that growth doesn’t have an age limit.
